Part I
On Saturday the 18th May a crew of professional street artists from Open Studio Coffs Harbour came to Nambucca Heads for two consecutive Saturdays to work on two murals with the Youth of Nambucca Heads. The first part of the project was held in the main St of Nambucca Heads painting a massive mural, We had 15 young people take part in the artwork.
Learning skills such as how to plan a big piece of work like this in a group. how to work side by side one another with respect of the other persons space part of the piece, Cultural stories such as in the work of local Gumbaynggirr man Brentyn Lugnan who had a big part of the piece. The day was a huge success and the young crew took home a lot of valuable knowledge. Lots of support from the local community young and old. It was amazing to see the youth working with top of the line artists to create something bright and magical for our main St of Nambucca Heads.

Part II
On Saturday 25th May the same crew came to our beloved HQ the Nambucca Valley Youth Services Centre to give the place a bit of a makeover. The Nambucca Valley Youth Services Centre has been operating for over 20yrs! The crew there have ran some amazing youth projects over the years from their Art Classes (Creative Design), Free Singing Lesons (Youth Voice), Music Production Lessons (Music Studio), The Wesley (SANDS) Program Just to name a few, They’ve also ran countless youth & Community events in the town which where major successes.
We had a similar turn out of young people attend part II but we had a couple of more young women come to learn how to paint and work with the crew we where also blessed to have had a local female indigenous artist YOWA come along who had just came from winning a major award in the Salt Water Fresh Water exhibition in Port Macquarie!
It was amazing to see everyone young and old work together to give the youthie the makeover it deserved and with both parts of the projects having cross cultural components that mix contemporary Hip Hop culture and traditional Gumbaynggirr language and culture.
Much Respect to The following artists. Ash from Open Studio, Yowa, Brentyn Lugnan, BBoy SEIZ
